What is complex care?
Complex care is a special type of care for people with long-term or recurring health conditions. These can include mental disabilities, physical injuries and chronic conditions that require specialised knowledge and support. Complex care is sometimes called long-term care or continuing health care.
The main difference with complex care is that it usually involves medical support provided by specially trained carers. For instance, you or your loved one might choose this type of care if you need respiratory support, catheter care or extra help with mobility. At Novus Care, we focus on providing complex care at home for adults aged 18 and above.
The complex care agency that cares
At Novus Care, we know that everyone is different – and no two illnesses require the same kind of care. If you or a loved one lives with a complex condition, we’re ready to provide specialised, tailored support so you can live life your way. When you choose us, you get a personalised care plan that covers all your needs and puts your independence first. It’s all about helping you to achieve your goals, stay active and enjoy a rich social life without leaving the home you love.
As a client, you can expect support from friendly carers who understand your condition and are trained to provide the extra assistance you need. All our carers know manual handling techniques and will receive special training so they can operate your support equipment safely. And before they start, we’ll conduct a full home assessment to make sure you can go about your life without worrying about trips or falls.

Complex live-in care
Is your health condition seriously affecting your independence and quality of life? Our complex live-in care service could be right for you. When you choose this option, you get 24/7 support from a trained carer who lives in your house. This means you’ll always have help at hand, whether that means managing your illness, assisting with personal care or helping you get out and about.
Visiting care
Health conditions are sometimes unpredictable. You may be able to do some things on some days and not on others. That’s where our visiting care service can help. We can drop in from time to time to provide the extra support you need to keep doing the things you love. This might mean assisting with health care, running errands or just stopping by for a chat – whatever you need to stay safe, happy and independent.
Respite care
Everyone needs a break from time to time. With respite care, your regular carer can take time off to go on holiday or deal with an emergency. We’ll send a trained carer in their place who understands exactly what kind of support you need to go about life your way. For you, it means peace of mind – while your carer changes, you’ll know you’re still getting the best possible care for your condition.
Overnight care
Do you have help at hand during the day but worry about being alone at night? Our overnight carers can step in to provide complex care at home from 10pm to 7am. They’re trained to offer the same support as our live-in carers, so you can always call on them if you need a helping hand or a friendly face.
Your complex home care questions answered
What does complex care mean?
Complex care means tailored support for people with long-term and chronic health conditions. These conditions often require complex health care, such as changing catheters, working with respiratory equipment or helping people in mental distress. Complex care can also include day-to-day support like running errands, doing housework or simply providing a bit of companionship.
What are complex care needs?
Complex care needs are any needs related to a complex health condition. This means conditions that may have multiple causes and often have multiple symptoms. Each person’s care needs are different, but common examples include breathing difficulties, chronic pain and continence issues. We also consider your mental and emotional needs when we create your tailored care plan.
What complex care conditions can you support?
Our carers are trained to support people with a wide range of complex care conditions. That includes brain and spinal injuries, motor neurone disease, learning disabilities and cerebral palsy. Here’s a full list of medical conditions we support.
Is complex care at home the right choice for me or my loved one?
That depends on your unique needs and what you’d like to achieve with our help. Remember that we can provide tailored support ranging from quick, occasional visits to 24/7 complex live-in care. Get in touch with our team and we’ll discuss how a tailored care plan could work for you.
Is there an age limit for complex home care?
At Novus Care, we provide complex care at home for adults aged 18 and over.
How much does it cost?
Our complex live-in care services start at £1400 per week. This is based on a single person receiving 24/7 care at home. Learn more about our homecare costs.
Will the government help pay for my care?
You may be able to get help paying for care with social care funding from your local council. It’s important to note that not everyone is eligible and the funding is usually means-tested, so it may be adjusted based on your income. You can find out more in our guide on how to fund your care.
